Quivering; shivering, shimmering; glimmering. serous (2024) is a gestural miniature that grows from a relentless stream of consciousness – a serum of sentience – which is riddled with loops that glitch through the apparent linearity, unfurling mellifluous tumult in its wake. The clarinet is treated as a sliding surface, bending and buckling from the feverish fluidity of the line while maintaining a persistent energy. Much like the title suggests, the work is defined by a certain translucency; the exsanguinating trills that are broken up by more agile articulated passages; these are seamlessly paired against one another, retaining a sense of deliquescence despite the interjection of textured elements. serous is dedicated to Szilárd as part of the Rucksack-Projekt.
